Oh, it just occurred to me. All of you probably don't know me by this handle. It's me, Vampira. Apparently there is already someone called Vampira on this website. I'm now using the name you guys helped choose for my car a few years ago. The handle "Vampira" wouldn't go through on CZ either, so I'm Lytadkar there as well.

Good to see you posting, Vamp!

I'm glad to hear that you have a new job. Less stressful is good! Too bad your co-workers seem clique-ish. I hope the superficial niceness works. It's better if it's not coupled with behind-your-back pettiness.

    Hi, all!

Just testing--seeing whether I have any problems to figure out here. So far, I think this seems cleaner and easier than CZ. But then I like the instant messaging there. In any event, it's nice to see familiar faces. And I'm so glad I found (with Absom's help!) the JMS news, Lyta!

Thanks for clearing the name thing up, Lytadkar.

I was starting to think I had had one two many margaritas in Boston.

Good luck in the new job, I can totally relate to the whole strees thing.

Just wanted to give people a non-Con related update. No news on the job front yet, and I only have about a month and a half of unemployment left. Sigh. This is starting to stink. I may have to start looking seriously at finding a legal temp job reading documents in a windowless room 40 hours a week. Yuch. Actually, I'm not even sure I could get such a job. I don't have any experience doing document review. This is getting depressing.

On the good news front, I am having a blast most of the rest of the time. The radio station is great. My current book is about Geisha - the history and the current practitioners. It is fascinating. And the group of volunteers are going out to dinner this Thursday at a place called Tamarind. It is supposed to be one of the HOT new places. Hopefully the food will live up to the hype. I have also had a chance to go to some plays and concerts, complements of the radio show. If only they could hire me...

And now for my big news. I started taking karate lessons around last October. It is taught at my synagogue. This is a very slow style. My teacher says they don't award belts without some real level of accomplishment. Anyway, at class this Sunday, I was the only student there, so my teacher got to concentrate on the things that I have trouble with (crane stance, doing anything with my left side as well as I do it with my right side, over extending my elbow while punching, combinations of more than two moves together, etc...). Anyway, as we finished going over the first kata step by step, he told me that I am ready to go for my first belt. Yikes! Like for real. Not to get to brush off everything I do wrong in class as being because I am just a beginner who doesn't know anything. And, though I am not sure exactly what the test consists of, I do have to break a board with both my foot and with my fist. The foot I think I can deal with, the fist is still hard to imagine, never mind do. I'm guessing that doing it will actually be easier than convincing myself to hit a piece of wood with my knuckles. Anyway, I am very proud of myself, though it still may be a while before it actually happens. I was there when our teacher told one of my classmates that she was ready to try to go for her purple belt and she is still wearing a green one. Maybe it will still be a few more months. Anyway, just wanted to share.

    Love to all,

    Polly

How exciting, Polly!! I'm so proud of you, too! And the book does certainly sound fascinating! Wow! What a posh unemployed life! I know you'll come through some how smelling like a rose!

    Hi all,

Well we bid on another house. This time the bid was accepted and they want the escrow to close by the end of the month 'cause they're buying a new house and it will save them money. So June 1 we should be moving in. This house is actually bigger and better than the one we lost so, it's better all around. Can't wait to be settled. This motel living and travelling 130 miles each direction back and forth on the weekends is also getting old. We've already started buying some new furniture.

Did any of you happen to watch Friends tonight?

I thought I was going to die of shock and laughter when Chandler announced that his dad slept with Mr. Garibaldi!
